“เว็บศึกษา.ไทย” provides funding for school website development, enabling schools nationwide to have their own websites
THNIC Foundation invited small and medium-sized schools to apply for 1000 scholarships for website creation fees under the ‘เว็บศึกษา.ไทย’ project to encourage the use of .ac.th and .ศึกษา.ไทย domains.
The Thai Network Information Center Foundation (THNIC) launched the “เว็บศึกษา.ไทย” project to promote the use of the .ac.th and .ศึกษา.ไทย domain names when creating websites and emails for educational organizations. The project provides up to 1,000 scholarships to small and medium-sized schools that lack funding or personnel in 2024. Small and medium-sized schools that do not yet have a .ac.th or .ศึกษา.ไทย domain name are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The foundation has allocated three types of scholarships: 600 for domain names, 200 for domain names with a ready-made school website, and 200 for domain names with Google Workspace with Education Fundamental installed.
Dr. Pensri Arunwatanamongkol, Executive Director of the Thai Network Information Center Foundation, stated that this project is part of the THNIC Foundation’s promotion of the use of .ac.th and .ศึกษา.ไทย domains to support low-budget schools. Since many educational institutions consider website creation and maintenance as expensive and requiring specialized IT teachers and a significant amount of time to manage content, they have yet to allocate a budget. In addition, using social media to create a school page to communicate with students, parents, and the community can be both convenient and cost-effective. Having a .ac.th and .ศึกษา.ไทย website, which indicates that the school has been thoroughly inspected, is not difficult, especially for a school website, which can be easily launched using a free and convenient program or template. Schools can then publish information, provide easy access, organize it beautifully and connect to their database.
“This project aims to be the beginning and guideline for schools or educational institutions that want to create .ac.th and .ศึกษา.ไทย websites in a cost-effective and easy-to-manage format,” said Dr. Pensri.
Schools that can be funded must be small and medium-sized with no more than 720 students at the basic education level under the Ministry of Education or other equivalent agencies. The schools must not have any .ac.th domain name in the THNIC system for the past two years (2022-2024) and have a budget and resource plan to continuously maintain the website. Schools with teachers or personnel who have completed the “เว็บครู.ไทย” training will be given priority consideration. Schools that meet the qualifications and submit their applications first will also be given priority consideration. The decision on who will receive scholarships will be based on the conditions and processes of the scholarship provider and is final.
This project lasts two years. For the first year, applications were accepted from April 2024 until December 15, 2024. Selected schools that received a scholarship had their domain names registered and linked to their websites. After that, in the second year, between January and December 31, 2025, the domain names and ready-made website services will be renewed.
